Rising Voices: Chris Peters’ Narcolepsy Story

Chris will share his story from being a high-achieving sleepy teen to recognizing his symptoms in grad school and finding a diagnosis and treatment.

About Chris:

Chris Peters is a licensed mental health clinician living in Charlotte, North Carolina, who loves to hike and lift weights in his free time. He was diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy without cataplexy at age 24, after experiencing symptoms for 7 years. Now a trained speaker with Project Sleep’s Rising Voices program, Chris shares his story to raise awareness about the importance of sleep in the mental health field and equip others with the language to talk about sleep.

What is the Story Sharing Series?

Project Sleep’s Rising Voices program serves the dual purpose of fostering a new generation of patient-advocates spreading awareness of sleep disorders while empowering participants. The Rising Voices Story Sharing Series invites viewers to gather online to hear a Rising Voices trained speaker share their story live via Project Sleep’s YouTube channel.

About Rising Voices Speakers:

To improve public understanding of sleep disorders, Project Sleep’s Rising Voices program trains people with sleep disorders to share their stories through public speaking and writing with local communities, healthcare providers, news outlets, blogs and beyond. Combining the power of real-life stories with expert communication strategies, our Rising Voices trained speakers are effectively raising awareness and reducing stigma for all those facing sleep disorders.
