Event Details

Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder (Non 24), also called Free-Running Disorder (FRD) or hypernychthemeral syndrome, is a condition in which a person's day length is significantly longer than 24 hours, so that sleep times get later each day, cycling around the clock in a matter of days or weeks. It is a severe, rare, chronic, and disabling neurological disorder that causes the individual’s “brain clock” to be unable to stay in sync with “nature’s clock,” the 24-hour cycle of light and dark on our planet. About half of all people who are completely blind are living with Non-24, and it also affects people who are partially blind or sighted. Non-24 Awareness Day occurs annually on November 24th in order to help raise awareness of the condition.
