The Sociability of Sleep’s Sleep Salon: “Writing Sleep”

Tune in on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m. ET for the Sleep Salon 8: Writing Sleep featuring Project Sleep’s President & CEO, Julie Flygare, alongside literary scholar, Dr. Diletta de Cristofaro.

Julie will share about writing “Wide Awake and Dreaming: A Memoir of Narcolepsy” and developing Project Sleep’s Rising Voices program to empower other sleep disorders storytellers. Dr. Diletta de Cristofaro is the Principal Investigator of  “Writing the Sleep Crisis” which she is also developing into a book to explore representations of sleep in contemporary culture and the so-called sleep crisis, namely, today’s presumed widespread sleep deprivation.

Together, they will discuss the importance of writing and sharing about sleep, and how it helps others to learn and “accumulate fine-grained knowledge of sleep’s social significance.”

Salon 8 juxtaposes literary-critical explorations of sleep in contemporary fiction with the awareness- and empathy-building practices of life writing about sleep and sleep disorders.

Sociability of Sleep

The Sociability of Sleep is a two-year research program supported by the Government of Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) that explores both every day and exceptional experiences of sleep and its disturbances. All Salons take place on Zoom, with recordings subsequently available to watch later on their website, sociabilityofsleep.ca.

RSVP here to join us for the Sleep Salon 8: Writing Sleep event on March 23, 2022, 12noon – 1:30pm ET.
