Meet New Member of Our Board of Directors, Emma Cooksey!

Please welcome Emma Cooksey to the Board of Directors of Project Sleep, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of sleep health and sleep conditions.

Emma Cooksey is a podcast host and writer.  She was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea at the age of 30, after more than a decade of unexplained health problems.  Once diagnosed, she felt alone while navigating life with sleep apnea and adjusting to CPAP therapy.  In 2020, Emma began hosting a weekly podcast, Sleep Apnea Stories.”  By sharing her journey and encouraging others to tell their stories, Emma has been breaking down stereotypes of sleep apnea while also raising awareness of symptoms and treatment options.

Emma first got involved with Project Sleep by participating in the Sleep In campaign and was inspired to learn  more about the organization’s programs.  In summer 2021, Emma became the first person with sleep apnea to complete the Rising Voices speaker’s training.  It was a great experience and Emma realized how neatly Project Sleep’s mission to raise awareness of sleep disorders aligned with her own.

When the opportunity arose to become a Board Member with Project Sleep, Emma was thrilled.

“I am excited to join the Board of Directors and I can’t wait to get to work,” said Emma Cooksey. “Julie Flygare and the team have created such wonderful programs, I’m looking forward to helping the organization advance its mission to continue making real change in sleep disorders awareness.”

Emma grew up in Scotland, where she graduated with a degree in Law and Economics from Aberdeen University.  After a decade working in higher education administration, Emma moved to the United States with her husband, Jason.  They live in St Augustine, FL with their two girls, Katie and Rosie.

“Emma’s leadership in the sleep space has already blown me away,” said Julie Flygare, JD, President & CEO of Project Sleep. “Emma shares our passion for storytelling and relentless drive for progress. I believe she will be an invaluable member of our Board of Directors.”

Please welcome Emma, check out her podcast, Sleep Apnea Stories, and follow her on Instagram at @sleepapneastories!
