Sleep Walk Jacksonville Shines Light on Sleep Health & Sleep Disorders – Guest Post by Dietra Mohrman

Over 40 people gathered to raise awareness about sleep health and sleep disorders in sunny Jacksonville, FL on March 8, 2014! Sleep Walkers and canine friends in tow, gathered at Bull Park in Atlantic Beach, FL. They registered and collected event t-shirts, wristbands, buttons and festive goodies. Attendees shared their amazing sleep spirit posters.

As the local organizer and “Sleep Fairy” for the day – I opened with a few words on the importance of sleep before we took off for the beach!

On the beach, local exercise instructor Angela Price, led us in some stretches and warm ups. Then we took a 2 mile picturesque beach walk. Returning back to Bull Park, the Sleep Spirit Awards were given for the most creative sleep-themed posters, followed by a lovely “getting to know you” picnic lunch.

The enthusiasm and support from the local community was so amazing. Afterward, filled with positive energy from the event, I walked to our local busy business area still dressed in my “Sleep Fairy” costume; and handed out more sleep awareness materials to the public.

This was a day that I will cherish forever. Casey of Go, Inc. – thank you for generously donating the beautiful t-shirts to help raise funds for Project Sleep. John Binkley and Sarah McKee – thank you for your amazing photography. Julie & Project Sleep – thank you for your expert guidance and support. I can’t believe we took on creating this event together with only a few weeks notice. You made it do-able. Last but not least, to all those who volunteered, attended, traveled from afar and supported the walk, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I can’t wait to walk with you again next year!
