Spotlight on: Rising Voices of Narcolepsy Writer Rachel Miyazaki’s Essay in Brain Mill Press

On January 7, 2019, Rising Voices of Narcolepsy writer Rachel Miyazaki published her essay, The Awakening, in Voices: Essays, Opinions, and Commentary from Writers and Makers, a digital magazine from Brain Mill Press.

“I’m twenty-seven years old and have never had a ‘good night’s sleep.’ From childhood through early adulthood, I struggled to fall asleep at night and fought to stay awake during the day. At its most extreme, my body would demand twelve-hour sleep-wake cycles…”

Rachel Miyazaki is a production coordinator and houseplant enthusiast living in Seattle (originally from Hawai’i). She has struggled with sleep disorders since childhood and now, as a Rising Voices of Narcolepsy writer, wants to advocate for fellow people with narcolepsy, especially students and employees.
